Every plant deserves a safe journey
At SMUKHI, I understand that shipping live plants requires more than simply placing them in a box. Temperature fluctuations, seasonal weather conditions, transit times, and shipping distances can all affect a plant's well-being during transport.
That's why I take a careful, weather-conscious approach to every plant shipment. From monitoring weather forecasts to selecting appropriate protective packaging, my priority is to ensure that your plants travel under the safest possible conditions.

Weather Monitoring & Shipping Decisions
During periods of extreme temperatures, such as summer heatwaves, autumn temperature drops, and winter cold spells, I carry out detailed weather assessments on a weekly basis.
I monitor daily weather forecasts for each shipping destination for the upcoming 1-2 weeks, paying particular attention to expected minimum and maximum temperatures.
Based on these forecasts, I determine:
- Shipping suitability: Whether weather conditions are suitable for dispatching plants during the upcoming shipping week.
- Packaging requirements: Whether additional insulation, heat packs, or a combination of protective materials is necessary.
- Shipping arrangements: How the destination, expected transit time, and selected shipping carrier may influence packaging and dispatch decisions.
- Potential postponements: Whether shipping should be delayed until temperatures return to a safer range.
This approach allows me to assess shipping conditions individually rather than applying the same packaging and shipping decisions to every order.

Packaging Adapted to Weather Conditions
There is no one-size-fits-all solution when shipping live plants.
I prepare each plant order according to the expected weather conditions during its journey, taking into account the destination, shipping distance, estimated transit time, and chosen delivery service.
When temperatures are considered unsafe, my recommendation is always to postpone shipment until conditions improve, especially during extreme heat, or cold.
During colder periods, plants are packed according to weather conditions to help protect plants from low temperatures and sudden temperature changes.
Depending on the conditions, packaging may include:
- Thermal insulation
- Complimentary heat pack when appropriate
- Combination of insulation and a heat pack for added protection.
Insulation and/or Heat packs are always included free of charge whenever I determine they are needed.
Note that heat packs provide temporary warmth but cannot reliably protect plants against prolonged exposure to freezing or extremely low temperatures.

Express Shipping Upgrade
For added peace of mind, I recommend upgrading to Express Shipping whenever possible, particularly during periods of challenging weather conditions.
Shorter transit times can help reduce the time plants spend exposed to temperature fluctuations and other potentially stressful conditions during transport.
Express Shipping upgrades may be available upon request, depending on the destination and carrier options.
If you would like to explore an upgrade, please contact me via email or website chat before your order is dispatched. I'll be happy to discuss the available options, estimated delivery times, and any additional shipping costs.
Please note that Express Shipping does not guarantee protection against extreme temperatures or unexpected transit delays. If weather conditions are considered unsafe, postponing shipment remains my primary recommendation, regardless of the shipping method selected.

Shipping at Customer's Request During Unsafe Weather
My priority is always the safety and well-being of your plants. If weather conditions present a significant risk of damage during transit, I will recommend postponing shipment until conditions improve.
However, I understand that some customers may prefer to receive their orders without waiting.
If you wish to proceed with shipment despite my recommendation, I am open to discussing the circumstances and arranging shipment by mutual agreement.
Before proceeding, I will communicate the potential risks associated with the expected weather conditions.
If an agreement is reached to ship during unsafe weather, the shipment will proceed at the buyer's acknowledged risk, subject to applicable consumer rights and legal protections. Due to the increased risk of temperature-related damage, I cannot guarantee that the plants will arrive unaffected by the weather.
Regardless of the shipping arrangement, I will always package your plants with the utmost care and use the most appropriate protective measures available for the expected conditions.
Upgrade to Express Shipping is recommended, and possible
My commitment to careful packaging remains exactly the same, whether shipment takes place under normal conditions or at the customer's specific request during risky weather.
