Cutting Guide

Important notice

Thank you for considering our Anthurium cuttings. To ensure the best experience and success with your new plant, please review the following information carefully.

What You Will Receive

Each cutting is taken from a healthy parent plant and typically includes:

  • Partial Original Roots: These may not be fully developed and can naturally deteriorate over time. The cutting relies on developing its own new root system.
  • At Least One Node with a Growth Point: This is essential for new growth. If a cutting has multiple nodes, this will typically be specified in the product description. If a cutting has no roots, this will be clearly stated in the listing.

Important Considerations

  • Original Roots: It's common for the original roots to cease growth or die off after the cutting is taken. This is a natural part of the plant's adaptation process. The focus should be on the development of new roots from the growth point.
  • Experience Recommended: Growing Anthurium from cuttings requires prior experience with plant propagation. These cuttings are not fully rooted plants and need attentive care to thrive.
  • No Returns on Plants: Due to the delicate nature of live plants and cuttings, we do not accept returns. However, we are committed to your success and are available to provide guidance and answer any questions you may have during the propagation process.

Care Recommendations

To promote healthy growth and root development:

1. Propagation Environment:

  • Humidity: Maintain high humidity levels, ideally between 80-90%.
  • Temperature: Keep the environment warm, around 22-26°C
  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the cutting.

2. Medium:

  • Initial Phase: Continue growing the cutting in the medium it was shipped with, typically sphagnum moss or an aroid mix, as visible in the product photos.
  • Propagation Box: Placing the cutting in a propagation box can help maintain the necessary humidity and temperature levels.

3. Watering:

  • Clean Water: Use clean, distilled, or rainwater to keep the medium moist but not waterlogged.
  • Avoid Fertilization: Refrain from fertilizing until the cutting has developed a robust root system and shows significant new growth.

4. Monitoring:

  • Root Development: Focus on the emergence of new roots from the growth point. Remember, original roots may deteriorate, which is normal.
  • Signs of Stress: Watch for yellowing leaves or mold growth. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent mold, but avoid placing the cutting in direct drafts.

Fresh Cuttings

Some listings in this shop are for fresh cuttings, which differ slightly from established clone cuttings in terms of readiness and care needs.

What is a Fresh Cutting?

A fresh cutting is taken directly from a healthy parent plant and includes a section of stem (chonk) with at least one node and a visible growth point. There may be some existing roots or leaves, but these are considered temporary — the cutting’s long-term viability depends on new growth that will emerge after the cut.

To support successful establishment, fresh cuttings are typically shipped no sooner than 3-4 weeks after being cut. This window allows time for:

  • Activation of the growth point
  • Visible signs of development (such as swelling or a new leaf)
  • Initial root activity, if any.

Fresh cutting disclaimer

  • Original roots or leaves may decline or die off as part of the natural transition. This is expected and not a sign of failure.
  • The cutting is shipped only once new growth has been activated, but it is still in an early stage and requires attentive care to thrive.
  • Fresh cuttings are offered at a significantly lower price than fully established clones with developed roots and foliage.
