Cutting Guide

Great that you got your hands on an Anthurium cutting!
To give it the best start, review the key information below.

Each cutting is taken from a healthy parent plant and includes:

  • At least one node with a growth point – required for new growth
  • Original roots (if present) – support early growth but are temporary

Key Points

  • New roots matter – focus on root development from the growth point
  • Original roots may decline – this is a normal transition
  • Experience recommended – these are not established plants and require controlled conditions
  • No returns – due to the nature of live plants, but support along the way is always available.

Cutting Stages

  • Fresh (undeveloped) cutting
Recently taken cutting with at least one node.
    No active growth point yet.
  • Partially developed cutting
Active growth point or first leaf emerging/emerged.
May have original roots from the stem, but no own roots yet.
  • Developed cutting
2–4 leaves with its own roots forming or established.
May still be attached to the original stem or separated.

Care Essentials

Environment

  • Humidity: 80–90%
  • Temperature: 22–26°C
  • Light: Low–moderate (40–80 µmol/m²/s)

Medium

  • Keep in the original medium(typically moss or aroid mix)
  • A propagation box is recommended

Watering

  • Keep evenly moist, never waterlogged
  • Use clean water
  • No fertilizer until new roots are established

Monitoring

  • Prioritize new root growth
  • Some root or leaf loss is normal
  • Ensure gentle airflow to prevent mold
