Started as a hobbyist...
For many years the idea of a small business was just a dream living in my head. I've always had so many hobbies that none of them was specifically more important than the other. Some hobbies vanished but some stuck with me.
I've gone through phases of oil painting, digital drawing, 3D design, baking, and some more. Then came woodworking which has been longer in my life than plants, and yet I do it very occasionally. Same way as candle or decor making - I'll do it when I feel like it. The plant hobby got serious (and out of hand) only around 2020-2021. But as I tend to deep-dive into new hobbies in a record short time, it didn't take me long to grow my collection from 3 to a few hundred plants. I wasn't born with this excitement about houseplants but it literally grew on me. It actually wouldn't be fair to call this obsession a hobby because they take all my free time - all evenings and weekends are devoted to them.
So, combined - home accessories and plants became the two main focus areas on which to base my small business.
...and now we're here
I've always wanted to achieve more and to do better than in previous times. Obsession with perfection may push you too far, but I've always seen it as a challenge. Just do it and give it a try. Taking on large projects might end up in failure, but not if you start taking small steps toward them.
So I did. In 2021 I started as a private seller of plants, handmade plant- and home accessories. it was time to spread my obsession with plants further. As I've become pickier about which plants are allowed to enter my jungle, so have other plant parents. Our taste evolves, and we outgrow our love for some plants. We trade, we sell, and buy other plants - our indoor jungle is dynamic and never still.
What's my drive?
I’ve learned that indoor plants not just play a major role in reviving your interior, but also have a positive effect on your well-being. Plants have definitely changed my life and made me feel closer to nature and have been my escape from daily stress. So why not share this passion?
If you ask how I see myself - I'm an entrepreneur, plant lover and collector, graphic designer, and creative. I love coming up with new ideas, being creatively busy, and making more people happy by expanding their collections. Delivering them happiness in a box. That is my reason 'why'.
Brand name. A little fun fact coming to the brand name SMUKHI. It's derived from the Latvian word “smuki”, meaning “pretty”. This seemed like a matching name to describe the variety of products (mostly pretty plants!).
Now, let's look at your plant wishlist?
